Nero Digital is a Codec. Basically the Codec adopts the MPEG-4 standard but has some extensions, e.g. Subtitles, chapter creation, 2 Audio-streams and navigation (soon). It is our reaction to the MPEG-4 Standards but it is 100 % standard compliant, including MPEG-4 Part 10, AVC [Advanced Video Coding or H.264]. According to this, it is a perfect position to use the vantages of the HD Technologie of the next generation, including HD-DVD, Blu-ray, VOD and HD broadcasting. It contains MPEG-4 ASP (Advanced Simple Profile) video as well, like DivX and Apple; MPEG-4 AAC audio like iTunes and 3GP mobile; using the MP4 file container. Compared to the DivX format which uses its own containers, the Codec is technologicaly seen very free – equally opposed to Microsoft, Real and Apple with its own DRM (Digital Rights Management) extensions. In principle, files created with Nero Digital are supported by a wide range of Hardware and Software if the MPEG-4 standard was followed. That is why Nero Digital does extremely fit to the future, especially if you consider that both HD-DVD and Blu-ray together with VC-1 [Windows Media 9] have adopted AVC as obligatory Codecs for the next DVD-Generation.

It is not possible to transcode MIDI files in another audio format directly or to create an audio CD with them. In order to handle this issue please follow these steps:

  • Put your Soundcard into record mode

  • Doubleclick on the speaker symbol in the task tray

  • Go to Options – properties - mark the Record tab (be sure to choose the wavemix, stereomix or "What you hear" option, depending of your soundcard)

  • Open and prepare Nero WaveEditor
    - Activate the record button.
    - Make sure that the incoming signal is not distorted.
    - Disable the digital monitoring.
    - Start the record.

Playback the midi files with Nero Showtime. They will now be recorded with the WaveEditor.
Edit now the recorded file (cutting the silence at the beginning, compress, normalize and so on) and save it in the suitable audio format (wav, mp3, mp4 etc.).

With the implementation of the official ETSI-standard for AC-3 storage in MP4 in the latest version of Nero 9, Nero Digital MP4 files are fully compatible with the current and future industry standard.
Nero Digital MP4 files that were created in older Nero Recode versions (before Nero Recode 4 / Nero 9) are not compatible with the current and future industry standard.
Therefore we provide a command line conversion tool which patches Nero Digital MP4 files that use the old style for the AC-3 audio track to Nero Digital MP4 files using the official ETSI-standard to ensure compatibility with future devices and software.
Please proceed as follows:
Download the file NeMP4Remux.zip, save this file to your desktop.
NeMP4Remux
Unzip the ZIP-file with WinZip or WinRAR and save the content to your hard drive.
To patch your older files with help of the command line so that they are compatible with newer versions proceed as follows:
Click "Start" in the Windows start menu.
Click the "Run" command.
The window "Run" will open.
Enter "cmd" in the "Open" text field and click the "OK" button.
The DOS window will open.
Browse to the NeMP4Remux.exe path (where you extracted the *.exe file) and enter “space” > input file “space” > output file
eg: C:\Dokuments and Settings\\Desktop\NeMP4Remux.exe
We would like to draw your attention to the following:
Files created with Nero Recode 4 are already created according to industry standard (ETSI) compliant AC-3 audio tracks by default, so no conversion is needed in this case to ensure compatibility with future devices and software.
Nero ShowTime 4 will not recognize the AC-3 audio track in the converted file,so please keep the original files for playback in Nero 8.

Bit rate refers to the amount of data (binary digits) that is transmitted within a time unit
(generally 1 second), i.e. in bits/s. The higher the bit rate, the better the image quality.

The sample rate indicates the frequency with which a signal is sampled per interval of time. It is measured in sampling values per second. The higher the sample rate the more precise the measurement, and the better the audio quality.

CD Text consists of additional information on a CD that can store e.g. music track titles and artists. CD Text is stored in the so-called lead-in area of the CD before the audio data starts. The display on the CD player shows the additional data. You must have a CD burner which supports CD Text to enable the CD Text to be written to a CD. In particular, CD Text can only be written in disc-at-once mode.

The MPEG-1 Audio Layer 3 audio format is used to reduce the size of audio files to a fraction of their original size (factor 1:10) with little loss of quality. You can estimate about 1 MB per minute as opposed to 10 MB for the original files. This value and the quality can vary depending on the complexity of the audio signal. The bit rate used can be used as a measure of quality. The higher the bit rate, the better the quality, but also the more memory required.

Jitter refers to an abrupt and undesired change in the signal characteristics. Small gaps occur in the data stream as a result. Audio correction synchronizes the data by overlapping the sectors. This way, the gaps are not audible.

Advance Audio Coding is an audio compression method defined under the MPEG-4 standard. AAC has a higher compression ratio than other comparable formats (e.g. MP3) and achieves high audio quality starting at 64 kbit/s already. This encoding format is used, e.g. in online music stores and online radios.

An Audio CD can contain up to 74 minutes of audio sequences and individual tracks in hi-fi quality.
The storage capacity is 747 MB at a sample depth of 16 bit and a scan rate of 44.1 kHz.

Metadata is particular additional information for data with the purpose of describing it better and for making it easier to find. Metadata contains information on the artist, album, track, running time, bit rate, resolution, and so on. As a result, it is possible to categorize files according to their type (audio, video or picture).

A Low Frequency Effect channel is used for transmitting low frequency sound via a special low frequency channel that is specially reduced in its bandwidth. The bandwidth is limited to the bases and thus to frequencies between 20 Hz and 100 Hz. The LFE channel is used in various multi-channel sound systems. Because of its limited bandwidth it is not counted as a full channel in the designation of multi-channel sound system but as a suffix marked as "1"(e.g. 5.1).

A filter is a system that links an input signal with a transmission function and makes this changed signal available at its output. A filter with infinite pulse response (IIR filter) uses the input values as well as buffered values of the output signal.

A filter is a system that links an input signal with a transmission function and makes this changed signal available at its output. With a filter with finite pulse response (FIR filter) the output signal is made up of several partially buffered values of the input signal.
