NEW! Recording from record or tape

In this tutorial you can follow the step by step procedure for recording a record or a tape on your hard drive with Nero SoundTrax.


The following requirements must be fulfilled:

  • A record player or cassette recorder must be connected to the input on the sound card.
  • You have started Nero SoundTrax

To record from record or tape proceed as follows:
  1. If you want to record from a record, then click the menu Toolbox > Wizards > LP to CD Wizard.
  2. If you want to record from a cassette, then click the menu Toolbox > Wizards >Tape to CD Wizard.

  3. The window LP to CD Wizard, or Tape to CD Wizard, will then open with the Recording Console screen.

  4. In the Audio input line menu select the input of the sound card.
  5. If you want to hear how the sound quality is modified by changing the recording volume, then activate the Digital monitoring check box.
  6. Start playback on the capture device.
  7. Move the Recording Volume slider until the display in the Level meters is primarily in the yellow range.


  8. If the level meter is predominantly in the red range, then the audio quality will be reduced.

     

  9. If you want to pause the recording until a signal is detected in the recording input, activate the Pause recording until signal detected check box.
  10. If you want to pause the recording if a signal has not been detected on the record input after 20 seconds, for instance because the cassette has reached the end of one side, then activate the check box Pause recording after 20 seconds of silence.
  11. If you want to change the target file:
    1. Click the Change target file button.
    2. The Save As dialog box opens.
    3. In the Save menu select the folder where you want to save the audio file.
    4. Enter the desired file name in the File Name input field.
    5. Click the Save button.
  12. Click the button.

  13. The system will start recording.

  14. When recording is to stop, click the button.
  15. Click the Next button.

  16. The Automatic Track Detection screen will appear.

  17. Turn the Silence Threshold controller until the value is reached that indicates a pause based on the volume level.
  18. Enter the minimum duration of a pause in the Minimum duration of a pause field. Nero SoundTrax detects passages in the audio file and will automatically insert a pause.
  19. Enter the minimum length that a track should have, in the Minimum duration of track input field.
  20. Click the Detect button.

  21. The tracks in the recording will be detected automatically. The detected tracks will be displayed in the appropriate screen.

  22. Click the Next button.

  23. The Noise Reduction screen will be displayed.

  24. Move the DeNoiser level slider until the desired threshold value for removing background noise such as hiss, crackle, and hum is reached.
  25. Move the DeRumble Level slider until the desired threshold value for removing low frequency signals that occur when recording LPs is reached.

    The DeRumble filter can also delete bass frequencies that are part of the recording. Consequently do not set the threshold value of the slider too high.

     

  27. Move the DeClicker level slider until the desired threshold value for removing clicks that occur when recording LPs is reached.
  28. Move the DeCrackler level until the desired threshold value for removing background crackle that occurs when recording LPs is reached.
  29. Click the Preview button.

  30. The recording will be played back with noise suppression.

  31. Click the Stop button to stop the preview.
  32. Click the Next button.

  33. The CD Compilation screen will appear.

  34. If you want to burn the project immediately, then activate the Burn project immediately check box.
  35. If you want to start Nero CoverDesigner, activate the Launch Nero CoverDesigner check box.
  36. If you want pauses between individual tracks, select the Pause option button.
  37. If you want to have the tracks run into each other, select the Crossfade option button.
  38. Enter the duration in seconds and milliseconds in the appropriate input fields.
  39. Click the Finish button.


You have recorded or imported an LP or tape.
