Blu-ray technology refers to burning on special data carriers. In comparison to DVD's, which use a red laser in order to read and write data, Blu-ray discs are written with a blue laser.
The shorter wavelength (405 nm) of this blue laser makes it possible to position the laser with greater accuracy. Data can be written in a more compact manner and takes up less space on the disc. A Blu-ray disc can store up to 25 GB on a single layer disc and up to 50 GB on a dual layer disc.

The BD-Rewritable data carrier is based on Blu-ray technology and can be obtained in single layer format with 23.3 or 25 GB or in double layer format with 46.6 or 50 GB. In comparison to the DVD-/+RW, the BD-RE can be rewritten more times and provides increased data integrity.
The BD Recordable write-once data carrier is based on Blu-ray technology and can be obtained in single layer format with 23.3, 25, or 27 GB or in double layer format with 46.6, 50, or 54 GB.
From Blu-ray Disc to HD video, if you want to create your own digital videos, this solution makes it easy to create lasting memories. Use latest AVCHD or MPEG-2 HD camcorders and save hours of editing time with Nero AVCHD and MPEG-2 SmartEncoding. AVCHD, for example, is a highly compressed video format and Nero only renders those parts of your video that were modified e.g. with transitions or effects leaving the other sequences untouched. This will save a lot time when you publish your movie.
Nero Multimedia Suite 10 supports AVCHD playback, import, editing, and publish to AVCHD or Blu-ray Disc, including SmartEncoding. Additionally Nero Multimedia Suite 10 supports DV and HDV formats and has a tape scan feature that allows you to quickly and easily preview and select scenes from your DV or HDV tape. Capture the pre-selected scenes and save time with managing your video project and save hard disc space, too.
If you are using mixed standard definition and high definition footage Nero Multimedia Suite 10 gives you an SD to HD conversion filter that boosts the picture quality to make it look like HD. Additionally Nero Multimedia Suite 10 supports AVCREC playback.

Nero plans to introduce the ability to play back commercial Blu-ray Discs within Nero Multimedia Suite 10 in H2 2010 as an optional plug-in, since only a small percentage of Nero 10 users will elect to pay for the high cost of the patent license for Blu-ray Disc playback. Including it in the base product would have added significantly to the affordable price point of the Nero Multimedia Suite 10.
However, it is possible to play back user-generated Blu-ray Discs that do not contain commercial content (e.g., an AVCHD content shot on someone's personal video camera) from within Nero Multimedia Suite 10. In addition, the previously optional Blu-ray authoring plug-in is now directly integrated within the Nero Multimedia Suite 10 at no additional cost.
