The Advanced Video High Definition is a new file format for HD captures on DVD, memory card or hard drive. Especially new camera modules use high-resolution formats that captureAVCHD in various variants (e.g. 1920x1080i or 1080p). The video material is compressed with the MPEG-4 AVC/H.264 codec. Audio is saved in AC3 (Adaptive Transform Coder 3) format or for the standard NTSC and PAL formats in Linear PCM format.

With the implementation of the official ETSI-standard for AC-3 storage in MP4 in the latest version of Nero 9, Nero Digital MP4 files are fully compatible with the current and future industry standard.
Nero Digital MP4 files that were created in older Nero Recode versions (before Nero Recode 4 / Nero 9) are not compatible with the current and future industry standard.
Therefore we provide a command line conversion tool which patches Nero Digital MP4 files that use the old style for the AC-3 audio track to Nero Digital MP4 files using the official ETSI-standard to ensure compatibility with future devices and software.
Please proceed as follows:
Download the file NeMP4Remux.zip, save this file to your desktop.
NeMP4Remux
Unzip the ZIP-file with WinZip or WinRAR and save the content to your hard drive.
To patch your older files with help of the command line so that they are compatible with newer versions proceed as follows:
Click "Start" in the Windows start menu.
Click the "Run" command.
The window "Run" will open.
Enter "cmd" in the "Open" text field and click the "OK" button.
The DOS window will open.
Browse to the NeMP4Remux.exe path (where you extracted the *.exe file) and enter “space” > input file “space” > output file
eg: C:\Dokuments and Settings\\Desktop\NeMP4Remux.exe
We would like to draw your attention to the following:
Files created with Nero Recode 4 are already created according to industry standard (ETSI) compliant AC-3 audio tracks by default, so no conversion is needed in this case to ensure compatibility with future devices and software.
Nero ShowTime 4 will not recognize the AC-3 audio track in the converted file,so please keep the original files for playback in Nero 8.

Encoding refers to creating a video in a defined video format, e.g. MPEG-2 or Nero Digital™
(MPEG-4) through data compression. A corresponding encoder is required for each video format.

Blu-ray technology refers to burning on special data carriers. In comparison to DVD's, which use a red laser in order to read and write data, Blu-ray discs are written with a blue laser.
The shorter wavelength (405 nm) of this blue laser makes it possible to position the laser with greater accuracy. Data can be written in a more compact manner and takes up less space on the disc. A Blu-ray disc can store up to 25 GB on a single layer disc and up to 50 GB on a dual layer disc.

Advance Audio Coding is an audio compression method defined under the MPEG-4 standard. AAC has a higher compression ratio than other comparable formats (e.g. MP3) and achieves high audio quality starting at 64 kbit/s already. This encoding format is used, e.g. in online music stores and online radios.

Advanced Video Coding is a video compression standard. AVC was developed for maximum encoding efficiency and makes it possible to produce good quality video compression at low bit rates. It is one of the mandatory video compression methods for high-definition television transmissions and for mobile devices (e.g. cell phones, PDA's).

P-frames (predicted frames) refer to predicted pictures in MPEG compression. They are based on predictions and guesses from previous intra-frames (I-frames) and P-frames. They only include the change information in comparison the the previous frame. Since P-frames feature a higher compression ratio than I-frames, the compressed data volume is smaller, since only the changes are saved in the frame.

Letterbox refers to an aspect ratio transferring method with which, e.g. a video file with 16:9 aspect ratio is adjusted for the 4:3 television aspect ratio. Black bars are placed above and below the picture.

Context Adaptive Binary Arithmetic Coding refers to an encoding method for digital video files. CABAC is an integral part of the H.264/MPEG-4 AVC encoding standard. Instead of variable-length bit strings, a different arithmetic encoding method that makes it possible to reduce the bit rate between 10% and 20% (and therefore reduces space requirements) is used.

Bicubic interpolation is an image processing method. If an image is enlarged beyond its original size, not only are the four neighboring pixels analyzed to calculate the new resulting pixel, but other nearby pixels are analyzed as well. This way, the new pixel is interpolated based on eight neighboring pixels.

Bilinear interpolation refers to an image processing method. If a picture is enlarged beyond its original size, the resulting new image pixels are calculated based on the average between the four neighboring pixels. The more a picture is enlarged with this method, the less sharp it becomes.

Streaming refers to the continuous transmission of data that can already be played during the transmission procedure. This means that it is not necessary to wait until a media file has been transmitted completely before it can be played back. A TV channel can be received and displayed at the same time without it first having to be saved to the hard drive.

The “Nero Digital Subtitle Settings” window in Nero Recode allows you to create your own subtitle track. You can also import a subtitle track that is already available. In order to be able to import the track, the file must be saved in one of the following formats: SUB, SRT, SMI, SSA, ASS, PSB.
You can only insert your own subtitle track if you have selected the Nero Digital or AVC profile category and, accordingly, one of the following profiles for encoding: Standard, Cinema, or HDTV.
Please note that your player (i.e. stand alone DVD-Player) has to support Nero Digital to be able to play back the file.
