Please check the following points if Nero does not accept your serial number:

  • Make sure that the latest update of your Nero version is installed.

  • Make sure that you're not having any typing errors.

  • Make sure that the correct Nero version is installed on your PC.


You cannot install Nero 9 using a Nero 8 serial number. Nero serial numbers are structured as follows:

If Nero does not accept your Nero serial number, please contact our Customer Service team providing your Nero serial number as well as a proof of purchase.

We regret to inform you that there is no Nero 6 version available supporting Windows Vista.

All Nero 8 versions support Windows Vista.
(Nero 7 Reloaded supports Windows Vista since version 7.5.7.0.)

Users of Nero 5 or Nero 6 (either retail or OEM) will receive a special upgrade price for the Nero 8 serial number, of course.

You can register your Nero software within the My Nero community. When creating a My Nero account you will be able to enter your serial number and register your software.

In rare cases it was reported to us that during the installation of a certain version of Nero (Nero 9.0.9.4c) on a Windows Vista operating system, the installation was aborted.
The error message is:
"Windows Installer has stopped working"
We were able to reproduce the error and it has been solved with the latest Nero 9 update.
To ensure that this problem will no longer occur, we recommend the usage of our Nero CleanTool before reinstalling Nero 9 anew.

Please proceed as follows:

1. Uninstall all Nero 9 programs using the Nero General CleanTool
2. Install the latest version of Nero 9


Important note:
Please make sure to deactivate your antivirus software before continueing with the above steps, otherwise you may encounter problems and Nero cannot be removed/reinstalled properly. After Nero has been successfully reinstalled, you can activate your antivirus software again.


1.
Start uninstalling all Nero 9 applications from your computer using the Nero General CleanTool.
Please proceed as follows:

Download the Nero General CleanTool, save this file to your desktop.
Unzip the ZIP-file with WinZip or WinRAR and save the content to your hard drive.
Double-click on the unzipped EXE-file to start the CleanTool.
The window "Nero General Clean Tool" will open. The installed Nero version will be displayed.
Activate the checkboxes in the displayed Nero version.
Then click the "Clean" button.
A status window will open.
The execution of the tool may take several minutes.
Please wait until the progress bar has moved completely to the right.
In the window "Nero General Clean Tool" click the "Exit" button as soon as the erasing procedure is completed.
Reboot your computer.
The Nero General CleanTool has removed all Nero entries from your computer.

2.
To install the latest Nero 9 version, please proceed as follows:
(Note: do not install a previous Nero 9 version from an installation CD now, but download and install the latest version of Nero 9 from our website. All Nero 9 download versions have the full range of functions as an original Nero 9 installation CD. There is no need to install a previous version of Nero first.)

Download and install the latest Nero 9 version from our website.
Save this file to your desktop.
Double-click the downloaded Nero 9 installation file to start the installation.
Enter your Nero 9 serial number during the installation to make your Nero into a permanent version.
(The download without a serial number is a trial version only).
You now have a newly installed version of Nero 9 on your computer.


If one of the following products
- Nero BackItUp 4
- Nero MediaHome 4
- Nero Move it
had been installed on your computer, please download the latest version from our our website.

To unlock the trial version of Nero 9, you need to enter your Nero 9 serial number in the Nero ControlCenter.
To do so, please proceed as follows:
Click "Start" in the Windows taskbar.
Subsequently select the "All Programs" → "Nero" → "Nero ControlCenter" entries.
→ Nero ControlCenter will open.
In Nero ControlCenter, click the "License" entry on the left side.
→ The license screen is displayed.
Enter your serial number in the "New serial" input field and click the "Add" button.
→ Your trial version of Nero 9 is changed into the full version of Nero 9.

Reselling of your version is regulated in our EULA and is possible under fulfilment of the requirements stated in the EULA.

Proceed by sending us your serial number, e-mail address and first and last name to sales@nero.com if you have registered under www.nero.com. We will then erase your registration. Please note that you must uninstall Nero from your computer when selling your Nero product. Furthermore, it is permitted to sell a Nero version only once.

It is not allowed to resell versions for which the serial number is attained per e-mail (download version/e-mail version) due to legal reasons. These are versions which did not include a physical data carrier. See verdict from January 19, 2006, AZ 7 O 2337/05, Munich District Court.

If your paid version is shown as illegal, please verify if the correct serial number has been entered when unlocking Nero.
Find out your Nero serial number and contact our Customer Service Team. Please also provide your proof of purchase.

To check which serial number has been entered please proceed as follows:

Nero 9 users:
Open the Nero ControlCenter.
To do so, proceed as follows:
Click "Start" in the Windows® taskbar.
Now select the "All Programs" - "Nero" - "Nero ControlCenter" entries.
→ Nero ControlCenter will open.
In Nero ControlCenter, click the “License” entry on the left side.
→ Your serial number is displayed in the window to the right.

Nero 8 users:
Launch Nero StartSmart and open the Nero ControlCenter.
To do so, double-click on the Nero StartSmart icon on your desktop.
→ Nero StartSmart will open.
Click the Nero StartSmart icon in the left corner at the bottom and select Toolbox – “Nero ControlCenter.
→ Nero ControlCenter will open.
If you do not have a shortcut to Nero StartSmart on your desktop, open Nero StartSmart as follows:
Click Start to open Windows® Start menu.
Then select Programs-Nero 8-Nero ToolKit – Nero ControlCenter.
→ Nero ControlCenter will open.
Click the Licence icon on the left side to see your serial number.
→ Your serial number is displayed in the window on the right.

Nero 7 users:
Launch Nero StartSmart.
To do so, double-click the Nero StartSmart icon on your desktop.
If you do not have a shortcut to Nero StartSmart on your desktop, open Nero StartSmart as follows:
Click Start to open Windows® Start menu.
Then select Programs-Nero 7 Premium-Nero StartSmart
→ Nero StartSmart will open.
Click the Nero logo in the upper left corner of the Nero StartSmart window.
The Nero ProductSetup window will open.
Click the Licence icon on the left side to see your serial number.
→ Your serial number is displayed in the window on the right.

Nero 6 users:
Launch Nero StartSmart.
To do so, double-click the Nero StartSmart icon on your desktop.
If you do not have a shortcut to Nero StartSmart on your desktop, open Nero StartSmart as follows:
Click Start to open Windows® Start menu.
Then select Programs-Nero 6 – Nero StartSmart.
→ Nero StartSmart will open.
Click the Nero logo in the upper left corner of the Nero StartSmart window.
Nero ProductCenter will open.
Click the Serial Number tab to see your serial number.
→ Your serial number is displayed in the window on the right.

The trial version of Nero 9 can be tested for 15 days from the date of installation without any restrictions, except BD-AV authoring and playback. After that period the Nero trial version will expire.
