Top 5 Nero 6 FAQ
Please consider that if using AVI-Files, a Codec might have to be installed so that you will be able to edit them in Nero Vision. Please install a Version of DivX or XviD Codec. (A stable version of these codecs can be found on the Website www.doom9.org.)
Depending on the size and bitrate of the original file, you are able to compress your video so that it will fit onto a standard DVD-5, but with restrictions. Nero Vision can compress your Videos so that a Project may fit onto a DVD-5.
In general it is possible to encode up to 2 hours of video onto a DVD-5 (4.38GB) with standard quality (Standard Play; 5073 kbit/s).
If you create a Project with higher quality/bitrate, disc space will be reduced.
Nero Vision always tries to fit a Project onto a DVD-5 medium (4.38 GB) if automatic compression is chosen. That is if you are creating a project with e.g. 8000 kbit/s bitrate (high quality), you will be able to burn about 1 hour Video onto a standard DVD-5 without losing quality. If you reduce the bitrate to Standard play (5073kbit/s), quality will be reduced as well but you will be able to burn double-lenght of Video onto the same medium. If you reduce the bitrate to Extended Play (2537 kbit/s) which is approximately the same quality as for a SVCD, you will even be able to burn about 4 hours of Video onto a Standard DVD-5. Maximum reduction of the bitrate (1691 kbit/s; Super long play) is equivalent to the bitrate of a VCD. With these settings choosen, you will be able to burn about 6 hours of Video onto a DVD. To assure the compability of the project, it is unfortunately not possible to burn more Video onto a DVD-5.
Please note that this information does only refer to the Videostream. Selection of the Audio quality and original Audio stream do affect the available disc space in the same way.
