  • If the /tmp folder does not have enough space to store a temporay image when copying a disc, the home directory of the user is selected by default if it is large enough.

Changes/Bugfixes

  • When copying a disc, only valid devices that support the medium type for reading are displayed.
  • Lots of small bugfixes for the NeroCMD command line tool for CD EXTRA and bootable disc handling.
  • The Nero Digital Audio+ Plug-in is now loaded correctly in the 32 bits package.
  • Fixed a crash when copying a commercial Audio CD in Disc-at-Once/96 with the 'Read ISRC' option enabled.
  • The ISO version addition option now works correctly with bootable discs.
  • Fixed a crash that occurred at the end of a burn process with the NeroCMD command line tool.
  • When encoding an audio track, the error dialog box messages that can occur are more informative.
  • Fixed some error messages when upgrading the RPM package.
  • Fixed a language issue when installing the package on the Asus Eee PC.
  • The activation dialog box width is now set correctly to avoid any shortened string. It can also be closed at any time.
  • Fixed some minor spelling errors.
  • An HD DVD DL combo box is now available in the main window if your recorder supports it.
  • The timestamp in the log files are now also in international style.

New Features

  • A command line tool named 'nerocmd' has been added. Please consult its manpage for more details.
  • The Nero Digital Audio Plug-in is now included for decoding and encoding files. This plug-in is currently only available in 32-bits. It will also be released in 64-bits in a future version.
  • A physical device presence check is performed at application startup. The device permissions check is then only performed if no physical device is found on the computer.
  • The installer will try to check the current kernel configuration and update the /etc/modules file if the SCSI Generic Support is compiled as a module and if the module is not loaded.

Changes/Bugfixes

  • The 'Add Files' dialog box now also works with Mixed Mode and CD EXTRA compilations. 'Function not implemented' errors no longer appear.
  • The 'Open Compilation' and 'Add Files' dialog boxes are now correctly sized when using old GTK+ versions.
  • Fixed German translations in the Nero Linux Compilation MIME type description string.
  • You can now burn multiple copies of an Audio CD compilation without problems.
  • You could not create bootable discs that contain a pure ISO 9660 file system. This is now fixed.
  • The MP3 Plug-in now gets the frame size correctly for all bit rates.
  • The 'Writing file' label value does not show '?? BUG ??' for HD DVD and Blu-ray Disc images anymore.
  • Fixed GTK warnings when the demo dialog box appeared in Asian languages.
  • The 'Number of copies' widget is now disabled if no real write process is performed.
  • The ASPI has been slightly improved to avoid deadlocks with specific hardware configurations.

New Features

  • Nero Linux now fully supports small screen resolution like 800x480 pixels
  • The device communication library now supports HAL for locking/unlocking devices and detecting device addition/removal.
  • Hotplug also works even if the /proc/scsi/scsi file is not present or HAL not usable.
  • Application restart is unnecessary when loading the 'sg' module while Nero Linux already runs. The device list will be correctly updated.
  • Nero Linux now uses NeroAPI version 7.20.
  • Nero Linux now has some command line arguments. You can see the full list by typing 'nero --help'.
  • Some MIME types are now registered when installing the application for GNOME and KDE desktops. You will then be able to open every handled file with a click.
  • The access rights of a new file being added this file are now checked, to ensure that no burn error will occur. This check can be disabled in the 'Options' dialog box.
  • To avoid burn process errors, some additional checks are performed before burning a bootable disc, when a logical drive is the source.
  • The user can now control the ejection of the source drive when copying a disc directly from the 'Compilation Properties' dialog box.
  • The user will be warned as soon as he tries to create a non-standard disc. For example, the application will display a warning if you try to write an audio compilation to a non-finalized data disc.
  • A Nero Linux XPM pixmap is now installed in the /usr/share/pixmaps folder and a manpage for the 'nero' executable file is installed.
  • The Debian package contains a 'Section' entry.
  • The FLAC Plug-in now handles vorbis tags (artist, title, album...) in both encoder and decoder.
  • MP3 files preview has been optimized to avoid freezing while the file gets scanned.
  • The MP3 Plug-in now allows files with embedded cover arts and large ID3v2 tags. 
  • All kinds of data tracks can now be selected for hexadecimal viewing.
  • The 'Internet DB' button in the 'Save Tracks' dialog box is only enabled when some audio tracks are in the list widget.

Changes/Bugfixes

  • The 64bits MP3 Plug-in does not have an executable stack anymore.
  • The Audio CD engine has been improved to correctly handle variable bitrate (VBR) MP3 files.
  • The Hex Editor used to view the raw content of a track has been improved to correctly handle selections.
  • The OGG/Vorbis encoder no longer loses the end of the file.
  • The 'Follow Symbolic Links' option is now fixed for symlinks to regular files.
  • The WAV Plug-in no longer crashes when dealing with imcomplete files.
  • The sound driver is now properly closed when a erroneous file is previewed. This avoids the 'Device or resource busy' error.
  • The DVD-Video/miniDVD compilations now load correctly. All the items that should go in the VIDEO_TS folder are in it.
  • Fixed the position of some dialog boxes and the window icon under IceWM.
  • Fixed the boot locale feature when creating bootable discs based on the 'DosBootImage.ima' image file.
  • A crash occured when displaying the content of an empty disc in the file browser. This has been fixed.
  • Fixed some false warnings indicating that the /sys directory was not mounted.
  • Fixed some French translations.
  • It was possible in Audio CD compilations that half a second of a previous track played at the end of the following track.This is now fixed.
  • Fixed the preview of audio files with non-ASCII characters in the compilation editor.
  • When the multisession setting of the 'New Compilation' dialog box was set to 'Continue Multisession', a 'Select Track' window was popped up when creating a bootable disc. This is now fixed.
  • No FreeDB query takes place when a disc does not contain an audio track.
  • The boot source is now correctly updated when you change from 'Logical Drive' to 'Image File' and vice versa.
  • The 'Destination folder' label was missing in the 'Encode Files' dialog box. It is now placed on the left of the text entry widget.
  • Fixed a refresh problem in the 'Save Tracks' dialog box when the encoding process is finished. The dialog box no longer loses the user customization in the track list.
  • Fixed an invalid CD EXTRA recognition in the 'Disc Info' dialog box.
  • When displaying the tracks on a disc in the file browser, a FreeDB lookup is only triggered if the disc contains at least one audio track.
  • If a track is currently being previewed while closing the 'Save Tracks' dialog box then the preview player is also stopped.
  • The track number field is now correctly set when ripping an audio track from a CD.

  • The 'Properties' dialog box for files and folders now supports multiple selections.
  • The new kernel pata_xxx SCSI emulation drivers are now fully supported. The burn engine has been updated so that it can be used correctly.

  • The 'Data' button of the Mixed-Mode/CD EXTRA compilation editor has been improved. 
  • It is now possible to fully erase a disc on an IDE internal device with new kernels. 
  • The 'Eject the disc when the erase is complete' option was updated. 
  • Fixed a memory leak within the 'Erase Settings' dialog box. 
  • The direct connection to FreeDB servers has been improved. 
  • The re-sampling of audio file when creating Audio CD out was improved. 
  • The 'Properties' dialog box for files and folders counts directory items and size correctly. 
  • The 'Info' tab on the mixed-mode and CD EXTRA compilations in the 'New Compilation' dialog box displays the correct size.

  • When canceling a file encoding process, the current partially encoded file is deleted and its status remains at "Not done" in the "Encode Files" dialog box.
  • The ALSA driver is now able to correctly deal with the multichannel function on all sound cards.
  • The source and target paths are compared before encoding an audio file. A warning dialog box appears if they are identical.
  • The user now has to confirm that he really wants to abort when an audio file encoding process is in progress.
  • The "http_proxy" environment variable is queried when looking for a default proxy.
  • The selection remains on the device item when previewing an audio track from the file browser.
  • The clipboard is now able to paste all its content instead of only one item.
  • In the "Save Tracks" dialog box the freedb progress dialog box did not disappear which forced the user to close the application. This bug has been fixed.
  • It is no longer possible to rename a special item in the compilation editor (e.g. the "VIDEO_TS" folder of a DVD-Video compilation).
  • When querying the device type, the media types that the device can read are inquired so that read-only devices are also listed.
  • The "Go" button in the "Encode Files" dialog box is now re-enabled when the output file format itself changes or the settings of the file format change.
  • The "Year" text field in the "Save Tracks" dialog box is now cleared when the track list selection changes.
  • The "Prompt to save unsaved compilation when exiting" option now works properly.
  • The keyboard accelerator for the "Add Files" context menu item is now set correctly.
  • The "Date Chooser" text box now functions more efficiently.
  • Performed many corrections in the French text.
  • Fixed /sys mounted check for some special distributions.
